Aero Modelling

Aero Modelling

Overview

It all began when I was pursuing my engineering at MSRIT, which is quite close to IISc. During my third year, me and couple of friends got together and started working on a UAV under Dr. S N Omkar, Aerospace Dept, IISc. We successfully completed the UAV, flew it and had a great experience in learning how to do it. During this, I got in touch with Mr. Kiran Kulkarni who was working as a Research Assistant.  And over a period of two years, assisted him in several other UAV’s also, in building the Cad models.

Post IISc, Mr. Kiran Kulkarni set up his own company – Haribon Aeronautics; and over the last few years, I have been helping him in CAD modeling for making production-grade tools, mold setups for developing and producing FRP based UAV’s. Haribon Aeronautics now has quite an ensemble of UAVs and Copter’s being used in several domains including defense-based applications, aerial monitoring-based projects, and research-based projects.

CAD 3D Modelling - Mould Design

The UAV structure is first modeled in 3D to utmost detail and all further assembly requirements in mind from the drawings in 2D. Once a required level of refinement is achieved, the model is later processed by splitting it in and developing separate mold setups and mold tools. The mold tools are then machined in a suitable hard material, using CNC machining – which requires production-level 3D files from the CAD model. The molds are then used to cast the FRP, which then form the main body of the UAVs.
